Top Tips for Comfortable Travel

For our guests coming from outside Europe, we recommend a travel itinerary that balances efficiency with comfort. Most guests choose one of these two options:
1. The Bordeaux Connection
-
Fly into Bordeaux-Merignac Airport (BOD)
-
Transfer to Gare de Bordeaux Saint-Jean
-
Take a direct train to Thiviers station (approximately 2 hours), through Bordeaux wine country.
Thiviers station is just 15 min away, and we will pick you up there directly.
2. The Paris-Angoulême Express
-
Arrive at Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport in Paris
-
Enjoy an overnight stay in the City of Light
-
Board the high-speed train (TGV) from CDG or Montparnasse station to Angoulême (approximately 2 hours)
We will meet you by the information desk at Angoulême station, and provide the approx. 90 min car service to the chateau, through the bucolic Dordogne countryside.

A Paris Layover: Your Gateway to Relaxation
Many of our guests find that, when flying to CDG, a night in Paris serves as the perfect prelude to their Manor & Maker experience.

This stopover allows you to:
-
Ease into European time zones
-
Ensure a refreshed arrival at the château
-
Simplify train connections
We suggest booking a Paris hotel at both ends of your trip to accommodate varying train and flight schedules.

Whichever route you choose, we're excited to welcome you to Manor & Maker, where your French countryside adventure begins.
General Information for All Travelers

Plane
-
If you are coming from outside of Europe, you will almost certainly need to fly in to Bordeaux-Merignac Airport (BOD) or Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport in Paris.
-
If you are coming from UK & the rest of Europe, there are airports in Bordeaux, Limoges, Bergerac and Brive-la-Gaillarde (and others) that have good connections.

Train
-
Our close-by train stations ('gares') are Gare d'Angoulême, and Thiviers. SNCF is the major carrier, and tickets can be booked directly through their site/app. (There are other reseller sites that may have deals.)
-
If coming from Bordeaux, there is a direct train to the station of Thiviers.
-
If coming from Paris CDG, you can catch a TGV train from the airport or Montparnasse station to Gare d'Angoulême.
-
Or if you are staying in Paris for a few days first you can catch trains from multiple stations.
-
It's easiest to download the SNCF app and enter your departure address (airport code or hotel address) and destination (e.g. Gare d'Angoulême) to get the best route for you.
-
The Man in Seat 61 has great, detailed information about train travel, including what to expect at Montparnasse.

If you are renting a car, there are options in Paris (5hrs drive), Bordeaux (2hrs), Angoulême (1.5hr) Limoges (1hr), and Perigueux (30min, the local capital). Expect tolls when driving from Paris or Bordeaux
